This species is completely wingless throughout its life. If sufficiently startled, these can emit a surprisingly pleasant defensive odor that is reminiscent of sour apple candy. Like some other species in its genus, Eurycotis lixa can release a pleasant defensive odor when sufficiently disturbed.

Adult Size - Male (45 mm), Female (47 mm)

Enclosure
E.lixa are rather large and territorial, so their enclosure shouldn't be too cramped.

Ventilation level - Moderate

Substrate
E.lixa aren't picky about their substrate as long as it holds moisture well.

Type - Not picky

Moisture level - Half moist & half dry

Food
E.lixa seems to be rather proteinaceous compared to other roaches and may cannibalize both their colony mates and oothecae if they aren't given enough. Additionally, their feeding area should be rather large to minimize conflict over food. 

Type - Proteinaceous pet foods, fruits, vegetables

Temperature
E.lixa can be kept into the low 70s, but grows and breeds fastest at warmer temperatures.

Range - 70 F to 85 F
