Deropeltis paulinoi
(Ornate Velvet Roach)
For all but the first couple instars, nymphs sport a black base color with yellow markings sporadically lining the pronotum, thorax, and abdomen. Adult females retain much of their immature appearance, while males sprout massive, wasp-like wings. Their oothecae are surprisingly large relative to body size and contain approximately 30 nymphs each. If sufficiently disturbed, these roaches can release a chemical defense similar to some darkling beetles and millipedes.
