Blaberus colosseus
(Colossal Roach)
"Peru" locality |
This colossal species rivals the Giant Cave Roach in size. Nymphs are quite attractive, featuring rich charcoal coloration. The lightweight males mature with tan wings, while the bulkier females mature with bronze wings. When disturbed, they are able to create a shrill hissing sound through stridulation. These like unusually dry conditions for a Blaberus sp., only preferring about one third of their enclosure to be kept moist.
