Vonones sayi (Say's Harvestman)

Vonones sayi
(Say's Harvestman)

This delightful little harvestman was confused with the similar Vonones ornatus for some time. Among other differences, actual ornatus, possess two spines on their opisthosoma, while these do not. Individuals vary in color from light red to plumb. Over time, they develop ornate markings that fluoresce under black light. This species is not prone to cannibalize its enclosure mates, much preferring to snack on smaller bugs/proteinaceous pet foods. Unlike many of their larger, leggier relatives, Say's Harvestman are quite slow-moving and easy to handle.
